That's when I was living in Brixton - we waved at the march from our flat on Brixton Road. Can't remember why I didn't join in on the march or go to the gig. I may have been a bit snobby about the likes of Madness a in those days, but a couple of mates from Reading crashed over at my place afterwards iirc.
That is where I learnt about the danger of the mosh pit and nearly got trampled on when I slipped into some mud whilst moshing to the dammed. I was 14 and sporting an orange mohican. ...or that may have been later. From the film above I recognised one face but did not meet her till a couple of years later.
As well as the Dammed Iremember seeing New Model Army and punk poet Jules and the Men they couldn't hang and the Pogues. However my memory may be merging two events the other being the GLC festival.
London was amazing for free events in the 80's. Fucking great time to be a teenager
I was at the 1984 GLC gig (Redskins) that the fascists attacked ( and which saw one of my finest moments ) so the archive is excellent but doesn't address the whole thing (though thank you for that link - not having a go at you.)
I was part of the stage crew tasked with protecting it from the likes of you and punks you see at the start, which was immense fun. The energy was phenomenal, particularly some guys from Glasgow who were keen on headbutting inanimate metal objects.
