The Boiler

LDR

kiwitanga
I just listened to The Boiler by The Specials for the first time ever.

It's a bit bloody frightening when you're stoned and not know what to expect.

Weird, the tune's been sort of airbrushed out of history- not on the singles compilation etc...

I brought a three CD set off Ebay called Stero-Typical A's, B's & Rarities and it's the first track on the second CD.

I'm really getting into The Specials recently.

The Specials are amazing - great, great lyrics. Never heard The Boiler though, I actually thought it didn't exist as I have only ever heard about it from this complete nutjob/pathological liar superfreak that I used to live with.

It appears on this compilation that I've had for years:

The tracklist says it's by Rhoda Dakar & Special AKA

It's a fucking dark track - especially after all the other happy bouncy 2-tone stuff on there. Like the OP says - bloody frightening when you're very stoned...

I remember it making quit an impact at the time, it was one of those tracks that everybody heard (so certainly was on some radio playlists) but, due to the subject matter obviously not played on TOTP.
I've always had it in my mind that the vocals were by Honey Bane tho' who, iirc, was Viv Libertines daughter (????) .

I got the 7" somewhere.
Wasn't it the first single after Ghost Town after the FB3 left.
Vocals were definitely Rhoda.

I think the proper Specials perfomed it live a few tmes when the Bodysnatchers had been supporting them. Imagine that, stop stomping and listen to this...
