The Bicycle Racing Thread 2014

Great tour, enjoyed it as always. AG2R put on a good show,
thought the stage wins by Rafal Majka and Blel Kadri are what having a chance to ride in the tour are all about. Will be interesting to see how Majka's career pans out.

The GC has certainly been more interesting than the automated Sky train of the last two years. Nibali put his cards down quite early and you half thought he might crack as they went further into the mountains, but the way he kept pulling aces was very impressive. So was Kittel in Paris when you thought the climbs might have killed his kick.

Although I don't have anything against the Sky riders individually (apart from Froome and his tax-dodging), it was also quite nice to see the Murdoch PR machine not function as planned.

Anyone want to guess if Betancur shows up for the Vuelta or if he will discover a preexisting engagement with a few cervezas in some bar in Colombia?

Also, if he does show up what will he look like?

He's out of contract so I expect AG2R will just leave him in the bar, tbh.

He told some local tv station in Colombia a couple of weeks ago that he's riding the Vuelta, which I was a bit surprised to hear. He looked in ok nick for a civilian, but he did not look anything like a climbing specialist!

It's possible they still want to keep him, I suppose. I'd expect a repeat of the Giro squad though - especially if he's still a bit of porker.

Oh they don't want him next year and he says he is leaving. But he also says he will ride the Vuelta!

How credible this is may be another question.

It's really quite frustrating/ I've been a huge fan since Giro del Trentino in 2012 and was convinced that he was going places when he won Paris-Nice in spite of having an extra 5kg stored in his face. Just very frustrating. I do wonder where he's going to end up next year.

Still, the Tour has me super excited about seeing what Barguil can do at la Vuelta so that'll keep me interested.

Cheers, well thats a start. I have just written to both ITV and Eurosport. It wouldnt be so bad if Eurosport did something on the ROKU box.

Imlach said on Sunday that there'll be a nightly highlights package, as they did last year. I remember reading a year or two ago that he was frustrated that they couldn't afford to do as much for the Vuelta and the Giro as they do for the Tour, and he'd like them to do the smaller tours and the classics too. As good a job as ITV4 do with what they've got, I don't think non-football sport is a priority for ITV paymasters, unless they can level Ant/Dec and/or Cowell into it somehow.

Predictions for transfers tomorrow?

Rumours abound about Roche to Sky. I imagine it would be a good fit, but I like Roche so would rather he didn't.

Bouhanni seems to be a done deal, with Taaramae, Coppel and Navarro all leaving to free monies. Will be interesting who they get in for train.

EBH to MTN is also a rumour. Will be a hefty pay cut for him I imagine. Will be nice to see him free of mountain train duties.

Have also seen talk about Andy to Europcar. Sounds like balls, but would love to see it for the giggles.

Roche taking the Murdoch dollar is still better than taking the Oleg Tinkoff dollar surely? Hobsons choice.

Yeah, but he's a rider I've always had a soft spot for. And he's leaving one team I don't like to join another I dislike only marginally less. No pun intended.

Anyone see the conmonwealth road races? What a heart stopper, what a finish. A nicer bloke couldnt have won it, well done gee..

The weather on the Tour de Pologne looked more like the Gent-Wevelgem. Hail, rain, wind and falling trees.

(((((((((((Oleg Tinkoff))))))))))

Instead of accepting that Kreuziger is probably boosted more than a 1984 Peugeot 205 GTI (thats an in joke for all the 80s engineers out there) he has gone on the offensive via his media bitch Stefano Feltrin. He is saving his actual offensive for after the legal action he is threatening by the looks. This is the same guy that welcomed Tyler Hamilton back from his ban by telling him there were no controls for his comeback and that he should 'be a pro'.

Fuck Tinkoff and the and the 60% horse he rode in on.
