The Ashes 2015

Honestly, I leave my radio for a couple of hours and it's all chaos and bloodshed when I get back

I thought I'd watch the cricket, unless it was 64-3. So I turned it on and it was 63-4. Bollocks.

Ok, mad hour over. Last hour negotiated safely.

Three days left. That's a long time, and England really need an exceptional day tomorrow. Someone to do something special, and somehow still be batting at the end of the day.

It's still not impossible. :D

But, facepalm really for all England's wickets, but particularly the first three. Not good, and if Lyth does that again, he might end up another name on the growing list of 'opening partner for Cook since Strauss, who failed'.

Cook is due a 'Daddy Hundred', Stokes will get stuck right in, Butler could easy get a quick fire ton and Moeen may well score a decent total.

Nae bother.

Not to mention....

If Australia don't win this, it will severely hurt them.

I agree. And given that forecast, if England can avoid the follow-on, they stand a good chance of saving it.

Also given that forecast, Aus ought to be enforcing any follow-on tomorrow if they can.

But if it rains all day Sunday and England still lose, that will hurt England. This isn't a lose in four days wicket.

Stokes put in a brief but impressive performance today. Lovely six. Hope it continues tomorrow. Although not to our advantage there were some pretty good stumpings too.

Ok so avoiding the follow on is about all we can hope for. Although maybe getting very close to that score might put Australia in a tricky position. They will have spent most of a warm day in the field to knock over 6 wickets. Maybe after that, they won't have the kidney to try and take on rested and psyched up top order batsmen right away. They may not enforce the follow on.

Without that weather forecast, I doubt they'd be enforcing the follow-on without a lead of well over 300. Modern thinking normally is that you give the bowlers a bit of a rest, and also that the follow-on is the other team's only chance of winning (has happened twice, both times against Aus).

But with that forecast - ie possibly no play at all on Sunday - I think they'd be mad not to enforce it.

.......and we'll get a better score with the follow-on. Who knows what may happen.
Yep - as I said, Aus are the only team to lose after enforcing the f/o. Headingley of course, and also against India more recently (Kolkata, I think).

But if the f/o gives the opposition a bit of a sniff, it's also your best chance of winning. And with rain in the offing, I don't see that there would be much option.
