The Ashes 2015

I'm another person who got into cricket in 2005. I'd never really paid it much attention before and I loved it. My attention has waxed and waned since but I've got back into it in the last few years. I do agree with bringing at least some of it back to terrestrial TV, it can be done on the red button or even just streamed online with ad breaks between overs. Imagine if the fantastic test and even more fantastic odi series against NZ had been on free TV? I think that really would've caught the attention of the public and got more kids taking up the game. The thought of less than half a million people seeing such hard fought, exciting cricket played with the up most of sportsmanship kinda irks me, it's a colossal waste really.
It's the selling off of something that belongs to all of us. It's theft, and a betrayal of trust by those who run the game and think that means they own it.

Giles Clarke is an odious turd of a man.

Haddin supposedly out for Lord's. 'Personal reasons' or somesuch

He looked badly off colour at Cardiff, I thought he may be carrying an injury or something. It wasn't just his batting it was his keeping standing back, OK he dropped the catch but he also failed to stop several very stoppable balls, just lead footed for some reason. He must have had something important on his mind.

Anyway if Oz were looking for fall guys him and Watson are right in the firing line so it may not be a bad thing for Oz that he is out. I reckon Watson has played his last game as well, too much baggage and damage there - a laughing stock really.

Jack Russell has been very critical of him on Twitter. Jack Knows.

Just peeked at his website. I'm tempted by one of his paintings. I can almost hear Blowers giving me a commentary while I look at them!

ETA Make that a print. Just seen the price of the originals. Justifiable but gone for 6 for me :D

Yeah, his standing up was decent but he was poor standing back and it's not just age, he's 35 not 45, something was amiss. I guess we'll know in the fullness of time. That being said it's a different business keeping in England on slow and two paced pitches, he has a poor record here.

Tms + cricfree stream ftw

Do you manage to sync the two up? If so how? I remember the days of real player streams where you could just pause the radio stream and just let the video stream catch up to that point in the commentary but I can't seem to do that on the streams now as there's no pause button is there? Unless i've missed a really obvious trick somewhere.

Haddin confirmed by cricket Oz. Family reasons. Hadn't realised his daughter had been so sick previously.

It may be a face saving excuse but hard to say given his families history.

I didn't know that either, poor kid has neuroblastoma which I've seen the effects of first hand. Sadly survival rates are not good, I'm not surprised he seemed pre-occupied.

The back-up keeper seems a bit green, not represented Oz in tests or limited overs. I can't see that he's played much Cricket in England before either and 41 byes in the warm-up match is not an auspicious start. Interesting times ahead perhaps.

Feel sorry for Brad H if it is his daughter's illness again. All the best to them for that.

But setting sentiment to one side, what was he doing on the tour in the first place? Parallels with Jonathan Trott.

In fact the parallels with England last time out are piling up.

And we're now three down from the initial seven Dad's Army. With just one match gone.

A bit harsh maybe. It can't have been easy for him give up his last chance to represent Oz at Lords.

I bit harsh, yes. But nobody is owed a place in any national team. That has to be the way it works.

Of course, nobody would suggest otherwise. But it's one thing to be make a decision when sat at home and faced with your last chance to represent your country and your last Ashes tour, it's another thing altogether when you're on the other side of the world and the reality of the situation hits, he's not a robot.

The only thing that surprises me is that he's not left the tour, it seems an odd decision but who knows.

Ali looking doubtful now apparently. Do we think Rashid can do the business if he's called upon? Talk about baptism of fire though, your first test being the Aussies at lords in the ashes. He could either buckle with nerves or relish it and play brilliantly. I'm leaning ever so slightly towards the latter.

Pretty good time to come in to a team. Amazing place to make your debut. And he's ready for it, no doubt about that, imo.

Don't underestimate his batting, either. If he does play, he should bat with freedom.

I think we should drop bell and play both Moeen and Rashid.
Nah. Great unit last test. Even Bell in the end - as it turned out, a valuable 60 second innings, and good catches fourth innings. Get the job done in four days, and yes, worry about the weather forecast. I think they did change a bit how they played because of the rain on Sunday. And that's a big change.

Barring injury, leave well alone. This unit bats down to number 8, and the opposition knows it. This is a very good thing. :)

The team winning the toss was always going to bat first but I'm currently sat in South West London and it's overcast and pretty humid. We've also had a bit of rain this week so I reckon it's not a bad morning to be bowling, it should swing around a bit. If England can get into them this morning I think it'll turn out to be not a bad toss to lose.

Clarke was honest enough in the last match to admit that Aus had the better of the conditions, despite losing the toss.

Reckon everyone will bat first in every match given that England are not going to be providing pacy wickets.

Yeah yeah yeah, I know the law/ssuperstition is that you can't change team after they win. But that's just daft. This pitch has nothing in it. We are going to be begging for wickets, not runs. Leggy would be very useful.
