Your bad luck then. Might I suggest you simply examine Jewish Scriptture as I have listed the form and Tractate, the Sages involved, and even the place on the page. Ther ARE English translations just find one with a Charedi seal first.
They use it as sticks? That is why when their forefathers were playing with fire and raw meat we had a highly evolved ethical society. In the desert, where we emanted, it was not easy to find others with which to exchange mates...and then when times changed out sages offered us wonderful reasons to continue the practice.
Rashi was one of the greatest minds to have ever lived. I might suggest you look into studying Rashi. Of course it is all up to you. I do not evangelise.
