Tell me about hair straighteners

rubbershoes

not the only raver in the village
My youngest wants hair straighteners for her birthday. Her hair is long and usually in plaits but she wants to be able to do stuff with it when it's not in plaits.

I have no clue about straighteners at all.

Any advice ?

Agree with Eids, get GHDs. They are really good, the only ones that go through and straighten my very curly hair.

Tangentially, despite never curling, straightening or even drying my hair, I’m ridiculously covetous of the new Dyson hairstyling kit and kaboodle - despite the £400 price tag.

Fortunately, I don’t have £400.

Her hair isn't curly. Does it need GHDs or will ones that don't cost £100 be crap?
I don't use GHDs because I don't use them often enough and I couldn't justify the price tag to myself. I have used Remington straighteners for years and am really happy with them :) However, if her friends have straighteners they probably have GHDs so...

I’ve had my GHD’s for donkeys years and I use them most days so they’ve been well worth whatever they cost me.

I cab never quite work out if Dyson and GHD are just better at marketing themselves than everyone else...Dyson hoovers are shite and the half-the-price Shark is miles better. There's no-one else doing Dyson hairstyling stuff yet though.

GHDs are meant to be the best but if your hair isn't very thick or curly you'd probably be fine with a different but good brand.

i've got babyliss straighteners and they are definitely good enough for my hair. bought a while ago now so exact same probably not available but boots do loads

check out the reviews of the one you go for first and you'll probably be ok.

she should use a serum first for hair protection and it also helps stop the hair fluffing up.

Cloud nine are better than GHDs. The chap that made ghds sold the brand about 10 years ago and went on to make cloud nine which have temperature control. They do much less damage to hair.
