Swimming thread for fish people

Hello swim-fans,

To start things off, I have a question. How can I improve my technique?

I was in the pool the other day enviously watching someone glide across the pool with minimal effort, while I splashed around like a maniac hardly getting anywhere. They used 18 front-crawl strokes, while I needed 32 to go the same distance. Nearly double! I spied on them a bit longer, and tried altering the way my arm comes out of the water (keeping it more straight). Amazingly, just doing that took 6 strokes off, I was down to 26.

Now I want to improve again. I've been swimming using the same technique for 40 years (front crawl and breast stroke), and now I get tired more easily I want to splash around a lot less.

Any advice, guides, links, videos?

the silver bullet for swimming is “total immersion”

I’m a life long competitive swimmer and i’ve been trying to switch over my lifetime of techniques to “total immersion” style
in the open water swimming when I get in the groove I effortlessy Leave people behind in the sea and estuary

it’s based on head down body positioning, slip streaming and core power as the engine of the stroke efficiency not effort and splash

triathletes love it as swimming is generally the weakness in their game

when you start doing the drills it feels awful but when you crack it it’s like flying

i had static pool sessions with videoing with these guys
