Storyville: Shooting Bigfoot

This is on iplayer.
I have just watched it.

I find myself left baffled.

It's not like other programmes in the Storyville series I've seen, which appear to be factual and well researched. It was more docu-drama, British man Morgan Matthews goes on three Bigfoot searches with three different groups of hardcore Bigfoot hunters.

Not a single one of which I'd have liked to be spending a night in the woods with!

I'd rather take my chances with a real Bigfoot!!

It starts off ok but then weird shit happens (not least the homeless guys dog) and then it goes Blair Witch :hmm:

Did anybody else see this?

No it was genuinely interesting, and creepy... Truly mad people shouldn't be allowed big guns!... It wasn't until after I'd watched it all that I started wondering what I'd just watched (maybe because I trust the Storyville brand but I took it all at face value).

ill have to check it out. Sounds worth watching anyway, although ill suspend my disbelief until im sure its not a BBC plot to have a laugh at the big thicko on the island...namely me.

as with most cryptozoology it only counts as genuine when you have a fucking corpse of the fabled beast. Otherwise its just straw chew mgee whose been at the poteen/cider/funny mushrooms seeing stuff again

Oh but apparently scary-red-neck bloke does have one, he's touring America with it.

How could you possibly remain unconvinced in the face of such 'evidence '?

Erm... taking it at face value, they were all varying degrees of barking

Wayne and Dallas just common or garden eccentrics with too much time on their hands
Tom was a pretty unpleasant character who clearly had a good line in getting well funded for his expeditions
Rick probably the most dangerous of the three, a genuine oddball with who knows what going on inside his head.

The last ten minutes or so... what the hell? Yeah, what did I just watch?

Anyone have any links to show whether these people are real?

In any event, why is the BBC showing this nonsense?

They were all shite hunters. Especially the guys with the white van who didn't go 20ft from the road, expecting it to come to them!

I watched the first hour of it. What happened in the last ten minutes?

It isn't really about bigfoot at all. It is about the one thing america excels at: conmen. Whether it is tall tales or hard cash.

I was struck by how all of them wanted to kill bigfoot. That was their ultimate aim. They all wanted to shoot it.

Without spoiling it for others: it went a bit 'shit just got real' X-Files/Blair Witch style

Watched a programme on Discovery a few weeks ago about the exisistance of Bigfoot,as one contributer said how come we haven't found any remains of these creatures ie bones, dead bodies etc. Also in an era of superior camera phones and digital cameras how come no ones come up with a good quality pic :hmm:

i am also baffled after just watching it. of course the BBC and storyville is known as a factual programme. In the last 10 minutes, i really wasnt sure what was going on. and i guess the cameraman didnt either. I think he was completely naive at the end and was probably shit scared. Then he got the footage.. i'm sceptical of course about this, but the footage looked intriguing. i almost believed it to be true... i would love to talk to the cameraman about this. what are your thoughts? was it all a setup? of course it was!.... was it?... why is the BBC allowing us to ponder on the existence of cryptozoology? the 'homeless' teenager at the very end said it was all setup, but with no costume??

its an odd one, surely a super rare beast of legend should be observed and protected etc.

I recon bigfoot myths are ancient days stories passed on from the dawn of time from when we still shared space with a rapidly declining neandertal species. I have nothing to back this up except 'I recon'

Just watched it on iplayer, the ending took me by surprise. It had to be an accomplice and a set up surely, that Rick guy was a nasty peice of work, I really wouldnt have wanted to be in the woods in the dark with him and a gun.

Talking of Bigfoot, I saw this book on amazon ages ago:

The Sasquatch People and Their Interdimensional Connection by Kewaunee Lapseritis

The Psychic Sasquatch and Their Interdimensional Connection is the product of 55 years of accumulated knowledge based on ongoing encounters with the psychic Sasquatch as experienced by author/researcher Kewaunee Lapseritis, BA, MS, MH, a recognized world authority. The 187 documented cases have clearly objectified the reality of psi within this phenomenon.

Ah come on, the ending was risible. Does anyone know if these people are actual Bigfoot hunters? How factual was the whole thing from start to finish?

I can't take the whole thing at face value, it's nonsense

I googled Rick whilst I was watching it, he is real, as far as real goes on something like this.

He's a bloke who calls himself a bigfoot hunter and once tried to create a hoax by stuffing a costume with the internal organs of various animals. It's not that much of a stretch to imagine that he'd get a mate (probably the guy he did the other hoax with) to wear a costume and punch out a journo. Can think of few better ways of generating publicity for his particular brand of snake oil.

So who cut the dog?

The loopy Rick (loopy is fine, loopy and armed with a fuckoff gun is not so appealing) or the homeless guy. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it probably wasn't Bigfoot.

I agree with Cid, rick was a nasty piece of work that put Morgan (the journo) through the scare of his life purely for publicity. My opinion is that Morgan Matthews' documentary was not to find out whether Bigfoot is real but to show up those guys that are hoaxing the whole thing and conning people when it comes to the reality of the Sasquatch.
I really hope that none of the footage was staged from the journalist and genuinely don't think it was. But as far as those last 10 minutes go, It must be staged by rick, as that homeless man said.
This just proves how dangerous making a documentary can be especially when dealing with hot heads like Rick. Who knows, it could have ended worse.

I too would like to think Morgan Matthews was hoaxed rather than being in on it. I do think he set out to make a straight up doc about the crazy fool Bigfoot hunters... And I expect he thought they'd be just like Dallas and whatsit, low key slightly loony enthusiasts... Or even like Tom, more money but no more sense.

What he got in Rick was on another level and I think he got far more than he bargained for.

However the account of the homeless guy is that he was in on the final scene and they did several takes.

If he thought he'd like really got film footage that good it would have made more of a ripple outside the dedicated Bigfoot community surely?

Agree with all the above few posts really - Tom: good at making a business out of his lunacy, Dallas & Wayne: harmless eccentrics, Rick: dangerous loon

Rick had obviously been getting riled by Morgan's questioning etc, doubt he'd have been bothered about scaring the wits out of him and physically attacking him

There was a similar thing years ago about some chap who wanted to find a ginormous snake. It quickly became clear he wanted to kill the ginormous snake. The whole thing goes from fascinating nature adventure into confusing and astonishing bullshit. People are fucking loopy.
