Spreadsheet with images?

I need to make a sortable table and one of the columns is to contain images. It seems Excel won't let you do this, it plonks the image as a layer over the top of the sheet, and it won't be sorted.

I suppose what I really ought to want is some sort of database thing, but I can't be bothered with all that, so does anyone know any spreadsheets that accept images in specific cells?

Google sheets claims to do something of the sort.

You can import your current workbook and see if it actually works.

I think you have to lock the image to the cell.
Right click on one of the images and look for a lock tickbox.

I'm at home so doing this from memory.

I imagine googling excel lock image to cell will give you summat useful.

I insert a fair few in Libre Office.
I'll have to see if you can do this...

I think I've got Excel working, although it's a bit sketchy because the images aren't really "in" the cells, and if you move or resize them a bit too much they suddenly get cast adrift without warning and left out of the sorting.

Google Sheets just works as you'd expect it to, but not sure I want Google to scan my stuff for the purpose of showing me ads.

Libre Office is a bit clunky in the visuals department, but I have simple needs and it's free ...
