Southwark Council Consultation on Greendale... Please complete the councils questionnaire!

Scutta

Live Fast Die Bizarre
Southwark Council had a consultation on Greendale yesterday. The club as a whole and Hadleys proposals were not mentioned in their future vision of Greendale at all.

It seemed to be a bit of information gathering exercise by the council rather than any fixed ideas. They do have a questionnaire on their website looking for peoples ideas and opinions on Greendale. So as Dulwich fans it is extremely important we make our voices heard, to make sure any vision for Greendale takes our club into account.

https://forms.southwark.gov.uk/ShowForm.asp?fm_fid=1117

please take the time to complete the questionnaire to make sure the council considers our club... it only takes about 5/10mins.

Thanks!!!

I think it's interesting that they talk of the land AROUND the all-weather pitch. You might interpret this as they don't want anything on the space of the all-weather pitch, as they know that a new modern football ground for the community might go there, but aren't able to discuss that yet..

could be... they wouldnt mention the club at all yesterday when I went down. So i hope obviously its that. but they need to realise that to discuss greendale is to discuss the future of our club so EVERYONE needs to get involved and make our voices heard!

I'm always a bit cynical about local authority projects such as this. Having looked at the existing aerial shots and the intended project plans, It looks they're going to spend a fair bit of money (on top of what they've paid consultants already) simply to tidy up an existing unkempt field and 'introduce' such unremarkable features as:

Species Rich Meadow
Retained Dense Scrub
Diverse Scrub
Mown Grass Path (!)
Seasonal Pond

It's not quite on the same magnitude as the Eden Project.

My feeling is that it'll become just as unkempt in time and will be visited by school parties initially and eventually, a collection of nonces, doggers, al-fresco drinkers and junkies at dusk. My really cynical side suggests that they're basically trying to preclude the possibility of a marginalised football club campaigning for a different kind of development.

If you're going to campaign tooth and nail, you could do worse than to repeatedly bang on about the work of Gavin Rose's academy and the opportunities and guidance given to South London kids (IMO). There's no limit to what such a chap could do if he was Director of a reasonably funded sports education establishment with some basic facilities - hand-in-glove with the increasingly popular football side, such an enterprise would do more to bring a community closer together than 'mown grass paths' and 'retained dense scrub' whilst ticking a good few boxes in Southwark's strategic social programmes. These things historically don't make much, if any, money but there are tangible benefits that could be monitored and measured on Gantt charts - excuse my technical mumbo-jumbo but local authorities love all that old shit.

There's already a diverse 'park' having all these features in the London Wildlife Trust Centre in Marsden Road, a mere few hundred yards away.

Doggers are already cared for on Peckham Rye by the old POW huts, 10pm, one flash of the headlights so I'm told.

I haven't seen this posted anywhere else yet but received an email to say that the results of the first consultation are now available online: https://www.southwark.gov.uk/downloads/download/3884/green_dale_fields

It seems we've had a positive effect in at least making our voices heard in respect of the council entering into dialogue with the football club. There appears to be strong support for sports facilities on the site; equally there does seem to be some opposition (as you would expect) and support for enhancing the nature aspect of the site and improving access and facilities.

It's vitally important that we continue to drum up interest and make our voices heard. If developing on the site is our best (and only?) hope of a sustainable future then we must continue to respond to the consultations as they happen and gather support. I know the Supporters Trust have this at the forefront of their activities so let's make sure we're all doing our best to keep things going off the pitch whilst Gavin and the boys do their best on it!

Not just the Supporters Trust. The Football Club Committee has consistently been 100% in favour of the redevelopment & re-location plans, as have lots of supporters who are not members of the Supporters Trust, and as such, are not represented by them.

I think it would be fair to say that the Supporters Trust are 'holding their fire'...and have not yet come out in support of the re-development plans. Hopefully as things are firmed up, they will.

The club and its fans did a good job of getting the new stadium on the agenda through the initial consultation. Community use of the new pitch/stadium is going to be a vital (and desirable for us all) element of any successful negotiation for a new stadium. I wonder whether local aschools (charter, the new Haberdashers school on the dulwich hospital site) should be enjoined in the struggle. Greater use of a stadium would be popular with a lot of local bodies I think. And a 4G pitch makes it possible.

Absolutely. It seems to me there's room for improved access and facilities on Greendales alongside a new ground, if the relevant parties are prepared to work together. It's important to keep pushing that idea I think, along with the potential community use of the actual club facilities.

I also agree a 4G pitch is the answer, although I know there's some purists that won't like it.

Good job I read the Trust article as I was planning to go to East Thurrock on Saturday! I might have just been having a dim moment but I can't recall seeing anything official about Saturday's game not being on. Maybe one for the official site if there isn't already one?

Fair point, about the official site not mentioning it...
