Somewhere cheap to be based for a few months?

It's a very long story but I might have to leave Turkey soon. I have a job lined up in the summer in the UK. I'm probably worrying too soon, but could anyone suggest somewhere (a country, city, organisation) with the following criteria:

-either free or cheap accommodation
-visa free or easy to get visa
-not hot (I don't like the heat and stay out of the sun)

If it's somewhere I could get to cheaply/on a bus or train from Turkey, that would be great too.

If being on the Turkish border is ok then Bulgaria is probably Europe’s cheapest option followed by parts of Portugal and Spain.

Maybe Armenia, Georgia, or Azerbaijan? Cost of living is apparently low, and no visa needed for the first two.

Seconded for Bulgaria. The Black Sea resorts are relatively cheap, even more so beyond the typical package holiday hotspots.

Edit. Not sure if that qualifies as 'not hot' but I'd imagine on a par or less hot than Turkey anyway.

If you don't mind being a bit inland there's a lot of cheap areas in andalusia. You can even buy a good house in a tiny village for 30K. Obviously rents in these places are equally low. Downside is that there's not much in these places.

(We really need Stanley (RIP) for this. His knowledge of cheap/free living in Spain and Portugal was comprehensive.)

Good question, i'm jealous of your liberty. Albania (ridiculously cheap) and Montenegro spring to mind but then there's always Georgia.....GOV advice " British nationals don’t need a visa to enter Georgia for visits of up to one year "

I went to Macedonia a couple of years ago and we were shocked how cheap it was.
