Sniffer Dogs at Glastonbury

Given the dogs/bag searches at Strawberry Fair as well I wonder if there's been some kind of national decision to clamp down on festivals? If so, why now I wonder?

Part of the great UK lock-down.

This shit makes me fucking mad -- madder than not being at Glasto this week

Perhaps, next year, every self-respecting festival goer should fuck the UK events and all come to Lowlands, over here in good old Holland :)

Well, it was to be expected, given the media's anti-drugs (well, anti-cannabis/reefer madness) backlash. What is the point of going to a festival and spending the entire time there drug-free?

Fekkin killjoy coppers...who will all be pocketing the best of the drugs for themselves. :(

Exactly. It'd be like camping but without the peace and quiet - a totally inexplicable pastime.

How did you get past the dogs and stuff at SF btw?

are you joking? this is like shooting fish in a barrel, they could have the next ten years' quota done by monday.

They had sniffer dogs at Amsterdam's Schipol airport recently, and they were sniffing everyone. Obviously loads of people must have been smoking, but they didn't react at all. I concluded that the dogs were trained only to react to "hard" drugs. Perhaps the same is true at Glastonbury, otherwise as you say, everyone would be arrested.

And add all the mud and rain to that and what do you have? A crap weekend. Should have stayed in London, really....

I'm glad I'm staying here. I like my home comforts too much. :)

dunnow - but on a local basis. That Cuban festival caused problems round my area.

Many festival goers were shitting in the local play group - play ground! wtf is that about??

I just walked past and didn't get stopped - they were picking people out for bag searches and presumably I looked innocent. The dog was either not sniffing for weed or had a cold that day. Didn't say they were effective, just that they were there :)

I was very grateful they didn't run one of their handheld metal detectors over me. I had a nitrous dispenser in my bag which might, in their eyes, have merited closer inspection of my belongings...

Presumably the solution to that would be to make it clear to the relevant people that - as a general point - shitting in playgrounds is considered unacceptable behaviour, rather than blaming the festival itself :)

My brother & some mates have been doing this for a couple of years. I'm thinking about it this year. My thread about it last year got an appalling response though!!

Me too !! :D (with a ridiculous amount of drugs of course :D)

Im not sure drugs would be necessary actually.. maybe those faeries are onto something.

Anyway - surely sticking spikes to horses heads should be looked at by the SPCA?

I'm going to one in Serbia - I wonder what that will be like in respect to drugs....(need to start a thread about this really)

Brainaddict - I would have been shitting myself, you were very lucky!

Excellent :D

We could have cats on leads wearing faery skirts and Phoebe from Friends playing the guitar :D No hang on, I went too far...

I like the sound of the act called "close" the best!

I went to Lowlands a few years ago Onket and was probably one of those people on the thread you mention! The acts and the organisation were good, but it just didn't have any atmosphere at all. People really kept themselves to themselves and there was no signs of any random behaviour or camp site shenanigans. - maybe we're spoiled with UK festies?

In what way?

They'll probably be a lot of eurotechno/jumpstyle kids around -- but a festival, next to a water park, close to Amsterdam, in the height of summer...

Sounds pretty

Yeh i'd agree - the poms are the best at festivals from what ive seen around the world..

See the above. People forget that the only liberal bit of Holland is Amsterdam. For example, we got to the festie with no supplies but thought we'd be able to sort summat out. We kept asking obvious suspects all weekend - eyes on stalks, gurning like loons, clutching bottles of water but pretty much everyone gave us a look like I'd just asked for a go on their gran!

There was other nonsense like literally the only beer you could get on site was Grolsch which gives me minging hangovers and you weren't allowed to take bottles of water into the area but you were allowed to take booze as long as you decanted it into a plastic cup!

It would seem the Dutch are pretty reserved...they clap really politely at the end of each tune...and at 5.30pm whatever band was on all the Dutch would file out of the tent and go and queue for their dinner, cos well, that's dinner time! Hang around an hour longer and they'd all be done!

*e2a* any decent festival shouldn't have to make a big deal of being next to a theme park - surely you shouldn't be getting bored at a festival that you want to spend a large chunk of one day going off site?

lol

Perhaps a regular tannoy announcement at the festival saying please refrain from shitting in areas where young children are likely to play.

My point, if people who are going to festivals are going to cause problems like this, then it's going to have a knock on effect in the future.

For example - Strawberry fair was ravaged by tossers a few years ago - acting like complete cocks - hassling folk, mugging others. The result of that is a more heavy security presence in festivals today!!!

Bristol's Ashton Court isn't far off going that way by the looks of things .. especially now it's being repackaged as "family-friendly".
)

I played at Ashton Court about 16 years ago and it was already family friendly then as far as I could see.

The band van was also emptyed and seached for drugs by sniffer dogs, we aslo had our clothes checked.

Yeah -- it was always family friendly -- more so before the dance area really took off a four or five years back -- got a bit rough -- the dance was more chilled before the early 00s -- so more police, more lock down now.

A bit like Glasters :D
