Six Nations 2021

Scotland's defence was incredible. Also, Finn Russell off the field for 10 and - the penalty kick at the very start of that time notwithstanding - no points for England. Outstanding.

Why didn't Jones start with Farrell and Ford, or at least get the latter on earlier? The closest England came to going over the line were Itoje's early charge-downs.

Theres just something weird about this trophy that makes it so important.

Suddenly occurred to me that I don't know why it's the "Calcutta" cup.

Apparently, because of the Calcutta rugby club, formed after English and Scottish players had a game. When the club was disbanded "keen to perpetuate the name of the club, they withdrew the club's funds from the bank, which were in Silver Rupees, had the 270 Rupees melted down and made into a cup which they presented to the Rugby Football Union in England in 1878, with the provision that it should be competed for annually"

Because he's an arrogant twat playing with a team that consists of at least 50% arrogant twats.

I said it at the time and I'll say it again, France were robbed at the Autumn Nations Cup, but England in their arrogance would have taken it as a sign that even when they played badly they could win. Yesterday proved them wrong.

There's a really good chance that it's the wake up call they needed. However I'm still hoping for them getting utterly fucking thumped by France in a display of boring arrogant rugby versus gallic flair against a French team that has some proper depth now.

It was watching French rugby that really got me into it. When the French are good they are wonderful to watch. Lately though they’ve not been at their absolute best.

have to admit while I loved the scotland win. I'm shitting tomorrow.* Can't honestly see us beating wales with that team.

* I'm feeling the six nations in a way I wasn't on friday night.
Are you joking, we beat them a few months ago?.

Gatland and Edwards are long gone, we should be looking for a bonus point.

Experienced squad, likely to play for AWJ rather than Pivac. Very good players in the spine of the team. At home in Cardiff, with low expectations I think makes them dangerous.

If we were to judge all teams on their last game then England should have blown Scotland out of the water yesterday.

eta I’m always negative about us after all I grew up watching us in the 80’s and 90’s to me we’re always in danger of becoming real shit. Plus I suspect 5/6 players starting today are past their best or not good enough.

Well, alright, maybe not their absolute best, but they are building to it for sure and playing a lot of really inspiring rugby on the way. Unlike England who are dull as fuck with the exception of the odd display of brilliance from Jonny May (apart from yesterday, LOL). They are the Exeter of International teams. Sure, you won, but did it have to be so boring?

Ben Youngs had more caps at the Autumn Nations Cup final that the entire team that France fielded. If the referee had seen either of the two obvious knock-ons that that led up to England's equaliser that took the game into extra time, France would have won. With their C team.

Quick throw-ins have always confused me since they seem to throw them anywhere with no requirements whatsoever but I discover there are indeed rules:
  • A player who carries the ball into touch must release the ball immediately so that a quick throw may be taken. Sanction: Penalty.
  • At a quick throw, the ball is thrown in:
  1. Between the mark of touch and the thrower’s own goal line; and
  2. Parallel to or towards the thrower’s own goal line; and
  3. So that it reaches the five-metre line before it touches the ground or hits a player; and
  4. By a player whose feet are both outside the field of play.

but people probably knew that :)

Police in London have launched a major investigation after 15 young and inexperienced men were subject to a terrifying ordeal whilst out for a gentle kick about in the park . One shocked victim said 'It started in the 1st minute when they took the ball from us and wouldn't give us it back.". Police said the culprits were all Scottish, dressed in blue and showed no regard to the emotional impact on their victims who were subjected to 80 minutes of physical and mental abuse. Witnesses are requested to phone Crimestoppers anonymously at the earliest opportunity.

I have to be honest, O'Mahoney always struck me as a nasty twat. No need for that, glad to see him go. Here's hoping we can now watch Wales slowly grind Ireland to dust.

At least they weren't robbed
