Sending a tool to the EU for repair

Pickman's model

Not sure if this is the right forum but I've a tool I bought in the UK last year I need to send to its manufacturer in Germany for repair. It cost about €145 and although the repair will be free I don't know if I'll need to pay customs charges on its return. Does anyone know?

Which manufacturer? Surely they have a UK presence who could manage a warranty repair (I assume its warranty as the repair is free)?

I am pretty sure that if the repair is being done free of charge under warranty then the answer is no. Pretty sure. Certainly that was the rule for repairs done outside the EU when we were it in, so as what we’ve done is shrunken the boundary from all the EU to just our own, logically the same ‘sending outside your customs zone’ rules will apply.

I'm not sure about charges but if you complete a customs form there will be a section where you can declare it as being a repair. I used to have to do this for strobe flashes and other equipment I used to send to the EU and further. It would then flag it as an already purchased/used so probably already paid taxes item. In a sensible world at least!
