see through tube tunnel

Officially known as The Widened Lines - odd set up where the Metropolitan Railway owned the tunnel footprint , but also used by the main line companies.

Does the tube line (Farringdon-Barbican) not pass through/next to the basement too?

Some of that formation is a fairly new build - after the severe bombing in WW2 and the building of the Barbican complex , the line was straightened out and built over - the once Thameslink trackbed- now disused from Farringdon Junction - (now removed) was the 1863 section and indeed passed through and near the basements / old goods depot.

A veritable bungling hairsplitter's paradise... :)
