Scottish independence in the light of the 2019 election

There’s a thread in the Scotland forum, which is still running about Indy ref 2. But pogofish aside, I’d like people to step away from rhetoric about Franco and such like....
It's also important to note that the spanish government sent in police to assault and arrest indy voters in catalonia, set dogs on them, and arrested many politicians then jailed them for sedition. Many videos are available on sm and a lot of them are really distressing.

Clara Ponsati was one of these politicians, she's currently in Scotland where we're fighting her extradition...the crowd-funder was huge.

So in Scotland it is actually a thing re Catalonia.

Were you aware that the Scottish government spent £2.5m on a panda enclosure at Edinburgh zoo this year? For pandas that go back to China at the end of next year.

£2.5m, spent by this purportedly socialist government, whilst we have people sleeping on the streets?

Edinburgh zoo is in no way connected to the Scottish government.
I have no idea how that relates to what I wrote. But for what it’s worth, I’m not that keen on zoos. If I ever have grandchildren I might take them one day, I suppose, but I think I prefer botanic gardens on the whole. And museums.

Museums in the UK are their own story of imperial brutality and theft.

Sas every country has to pay for pandas, China owns them and they say who gets them, do some research. And no-place gets them without a proper place for them to stay.

Also...every place that gets them...turns a big profit.

And also...only pandas in the UK, aren't they?

Three points:

1. The pandas go home next year. They have been in Scotland for nine years, yet the SNP government decides to spend £2.5m of scarce public money this year.

2. The Scottish government does not own, and has no connection to Edinburgh zoo.

3. Edinburgh zoo pays £1m a year for the pandas, and the Chinese officials were perfectly happy with the existing accommodation for the animals.

This is the latest of a long line of SNP vanity projects, indulging Sturgeon's delusions of competence.

I'm also very ambivalent about zoos. It seems dreadful to keep the big cats in such small enclosures, that said, a number of zoos have made great efforts to increase space.

Zoos do a huge amount of work with captive breeding, without zoos, a number of species would be gone.

Does one justify the other? I honestly don't know.

(Did I see on one of the other threads that you are moving? Where are you off to?)

We're not very far away from 'why not put the homeless in the zoos'. Just putting it out there first.

'I'm sick of my taxes paying for this disgusting layabout lifestyle :snarl:'

Sas I had a nice big gossipy answer about government expenditure then realised it might be gross misconduct...as I'm unsure if it would affect me just now I'll not post it. :D

Are you saying that pandas aren't worth two and a half million quid? You're on thin ice here, mush!

This Scot thinks that independence is no nearer than it ever was. The last poll showed a slight increase in the NO voting intention.

Sturgeon can become as hysterical as she wishes, she wanted a 'once in generation' referendum, she got it and lost.

The future...

Nicola Sturgeon was born in 1970, so in 2030 she´ll have aged to about 80? This has all the accuracy and regard for empirical reality of all your other posts, Sas.

I presume that is because they want to keep it as an issue in the next election. Wasn‘t that how they skewered Milliband in the end?
