Here's a picture posted by Lancashire Fire and Rescue - thermal imaging spotted a group around a campfire on the Rivington Moors on 29 June. Police were sent to give words of advice ask them what the fucking hell they're playing at.

I can't support capital punishment, OTOH, I would be happy to see them dropped by helicopter into the middle of it, with a watering can, and leave them to get on with clearing up the damage they have caused.

LFRS and GMFRS were, apparently, on the verge of asking for military support this morning at the Winter hill site, but they may now have binned that, or delayed it. not sure why...

Standing Joint Command (the joint HQ that deals with UK contingency oprerations and military aid to civil authorities) is generating more assets in case they become needed - short version, everyone is now assuming that large, mutiple fires, some of them close to either populations centres or critical national infrastructure and all over the country are going to be a thing for the next 2 or 3 months, that no serious rainfall is going to appear like the swish of a Fairy Godmothers wand, and that significant military support is going to be needed across mutiple locations.

The MEN are now reporting that the 22 year old arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life for the Winter Hill fire has been detained, rather than released pending further investigations as reported earlier.
