Rugby World Cup 2023

I really think it's only a matter of time until helmets are made mandatory a la NFL if they're actually serious about this.

Equally I've no idea what football is going to do about heading the ball in future given recent findings on its effect on the brain over years. I'd actually prefer someone I love play rugby and get the occasional heavy knock than hitting a football ball again again and again during matches and training with their head.
World Rugby didn’t allow Berrick Barnes to wear a boxing type helmet, they are not going to introduce compulsory helmets.

Doesn't help. Helmets prevent skull fractures, but they do not prevent the shaking that causes concussion. Wearing a helmet could potentially even make things worse as wearing one can encourage even heavier impacts. There is no safe way to hit someone in the head.

Got to say although the saffas are using their heft, that Kriel /de Allende midfield looks like a weakness. Kriel is shooting up in Defense every time leaving a gap between him and De Allende.

As for this, yes, potentially football may have to change to restrict or ban heading entirely. It wouldn't destroy football to end heading. It would change the game a bit, but the game would survive just fine. We'd all get used to it soon enough.

Aiming to raise awareness of neurodegenerative diseases received from sport, as well as to start a conversation about the potential laws of the future, heading was only allowed inside the penalty area during the first half and completely banned in the second.

Inside football’s first game with no heading

As our knowledge changes, so should our behaviour.

I generally like Angus Gardener but this is the first match so far where we will be really talking about refs decisions (and lack of) after

One innovation I am liking in rugby is that the ref just stops the clock when there's a stoppage in play rather than relying on some random system of added time like in football. It's brilliant.
