Rome - Restaurant Recommendations

Spymaster

Plastic Paddy
Mrs Spy is in Rome with her sisters for a week and rather than doing a bit of planning before they left they called me earlier (pissed) and want me to find a good restaurant for her sisters birthday on Wednesday.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Cheers.

Enjoyable food at La Cabonara, via Panisperna where Enrico Fermi used to hang out. Some clients get invited to graffiti on the walls.

Bafetto or Bafetto 2 for pizza but they get oversubscribed quickly, so forget them for a birthday and try somewhere else, eg further out in Testaccio, Acqua e Farina (local recommendation).

My Italian friend Valeria sent me this a few months back. She used to live there.

Cut and pasted from a garbled email.

FOOD.
Pizza forum (Colosseo area) - real neapolitan pizza. (SUPER!!!)
Ciak si Mangia (Pigneto) - real roman pizza.
--
Da Bruno Ai Quattro Venti (Trastevere) - ristorante/trattoria (more expensive!)
La Suburra (Rione Monti) - ristorante/osteria - cucina romana (more expensive!)
Birreria Peroni (Altare della Patria) - pizzeria/osteria/birreria (more expensive!)
--
Lo zozzone (Piazza Navona, via del teatro della pace) - it's an amazing focacceria, this is a MUST, try at least 4 different focaccia :) (fast and cheap - daytime!)
Papero giallo (Piazza Sempione) - tavola calda (ealthy fast food), this is not a must but the area is pretty nice, it's in the suburbs (fast and cheap - daytime!)
Mondo arancina (piazza del popolo - rione monti) - (sicilian fast food) - (fast and cheap - daytime!)
--
Gelateria lo Yeti (Pigneto) - super nice ice creams!
Pompi (Re di Roma) - pasticceria/bar - go there!!! this is a MUST, they make the best tiramisù in rome!!

Not sure if this sort of thing is what they are after but before we went to Rome we printed some pages from the lonely planet guides and when we were there we found ourselves lots of lovelly resteraunts off the beaten track and not at tourist prices!

There are a number of very reasonable places with excellent food scattered around the less touristic San Lorenzo and Pigneto areas to the E/SE of Termini station. You just need to hunt them down.
