rip Woosh, good raves. it wa sjust slightly before my time but they always seemed like the nicest most sorted of all the scenes, like cool older brothers.
Digs & Woosh at the Arches in Sheffield around '96 is one of those nights that's seared into my brain. There's many raves I went to that are a blur, just as many I can barely remember and some nights (like this one) that, despite being equally or more fucked, are as clear as if they happened yesterday.
The first sign it was something different was when I walked in quite early and it was already packed, the upstairs a sea of people sat on the floor skinning up. Their set was amazing, moving effortlessly from house like X-Press 2's Raise Your Hands to techno, like Jeff Mills' Purpose Maker stuff. I remember dancing on a podium at the back, someone sharing their water with me and me sharing a spliff in return. If time machines existed I'd love to go back and do that night again.
