Dad woke my quite deaf mum up to tell her Nell had passed away this morning.
Mum thought he had said someone else ..a relative...
When she got it right she started crying. Nell was someone she liked a lot.
I don't know anyone who ever had a bad word about Nell. She was a feminist. A fighter. A brilliant writer. A lovely all round person. Tough...with a very soft heart.
