This is sad. DM were so huge in the 80s and 90s thanks to the energy and vision of Fletch and the others. Was so lucky to see them play Dublin as a teen.

An influential and often underrated band.

So utterly sad. I loved Depeche Mode during my late teens and played violator over and over again. Working class band, innovative and so many seminal songs and memories of hearing them. 60. Christ.

Really, really sad news. Mr. QofG's is a massive Mode fan and has carried me along with his love of the band.

In that sense Mode has been a major part of my life and this news is a real shock.

As far as I understand, Fletch was the arch capitalist within DM, so I think he would feel for me.

Ah sad news. I remember Berlin in the 90s seemed to have the dark violator and songs of F&D everywhere. often when i was hitching around the continent, the driver was blasting out DM. RIP Andy

I listened to DM at school, college, university. Depeche Mode on the radio. Depeche tapes copied from friends.

Then I got my first proper job and spent so many hours stuck on motorways with Depeche Mode on the car stereo cassette.

Then I got married, moved house. I have Depeche Mode CDs that remind me of all of that.

Then... proper career! Relocated, we moved down south. Depeche Mode on MTV. Reminds me of all of that.

Life happens. Big life events. And more Depeche Mode CDs remind me of all of that.

So many memories. So many emotions.

DM are one of those bands who are somehow huge yet also not quite as acknowledged as they should be. Their influence on so many others is massive.

This is a nice tribute to Fletch. He seemed like the best type of pop ‘star’: down to earth, not up his own arse, retained his decency and sense of perspective and appreciative of fans and the life:
