Ricky Gervais Afterlife

scifisam

feck! arse! girls! drink!
It's on its third year already so I'm probably late to the game, but I only just started watching it. It's really very good, innit? Genuinely moving, and funny. Just life, on screen.

(I did a search and couldn't find anything).

Penelope Wilton's great, too - I loved this conversation:

Penelope Wilton: "All we've got is each other. We've got to help each other struggle through till we die, and then we're done. No point in feeling sorry for ourselves and making everyone else unhappy too. Might as well top yourself if you feel like that."

Ricky Gervais: "Are you sure you want to work for the Samaritans?"

:D

I've never had to deal with really direct, life-changing grief, but I still like it.

Only 2 seasons. It's well done, and, despite Gervais being a cock, watchable. Joe Wilkinson is great, as are all the supporting case.

Some discussion here

I didn't like it.

I didn't like it.

Sorry. I searched Gervais, Afterlife, and After Life, and nothing came up.

My recollection of seeing it discussed here was that Ricky Gervais character was awful in every way yada yada. An excuse for Ricky Gervais to be a cunt blah blah (I'm sure this isn't how it went but it was the impression that stuck with me)

However I watched it on Netflix recently and enjoyed it. I like that he wasn't just quietly grieving, tragic but graceful and magnanimous. A very different character to the mum character in 'Mum'. Both valid and good in their way

Didn't realise there's a second season. I'll definitely watch.

Thought the first one was beautiful, however much of a cock the main character. It managed to make my cry for this wanker. I think that was part of the point :)

The second one has one standout moment that is really well done and is making me emotional just thinking about it, but it is too spoilery to be any more specific.

And it's not that bloke's comedy routine.

Series one much better than series two.

There maybe enough material for a third and hopefully final series but it's touch and go

I really disliked this program. Thought the first two episodes were good and then I realised that it just went on and on using the same wooden dramatic devices, the overlong song sequences and the caracatured people.
