Apparently there's some campaign to get more people remembering Flodden. Not entirely sure why, but fascinating programme on Radio 4 about this the other day

The nobles in Edinburgh were pretty sure there was going to be an English invasion after the battle so spent rather a lot of money on building a wall right around the city; most of it's still there

^That's the wrong Thomas Howard. He was at the battle, but his father the Duke of Norfolk (also called Thomas) was in command.

It was certainly the last reigning monarch in Britain to die in battle.

The border town of Selkirk based their whole Common Riding summer festival around Flodden, because of 80 men from the town who went to fight at the battle, only one is supposed to have come back.

It was played at my Granny's funeral. (Which is why I no longer sing it).

Was that the last king that an english army killed?

Not sure, but the Queen of Jhansi, Rani Lakshmibai was killed by the British Army in the Indian Mutiny (1858)
