This is clearly a victory for the local campaign who have been relentlessly organising against the event and the activity of the BNP in the area, particualy in Amber Valley where the event has taken place over this past three years. Also for the anti fascist movement nationally who have mobilised a good turnout to the demos against the Red White and Blue fest especially last year.
The BNP's reasons for "pulling the plug" verge on the rediculous tho. "Perhaps the Red, White and Blue needs to take place in a county where the police are not hugely under-funded and not a hotspot for terrorist plotters." - BNP Amber Valley Brough Councillor Lewis Allsebrook.
(Yeah cos Derbyshire is known for it's strong links to terrorist organisations)
They have said that the BNP will be holding a series of smaller, more local events instead.
More importantly tho I do think this vindicates the strategy used by activists in the area of organising within the community and calling on national organisations for support in taking on the BNP head on where they show their face.
