Reggae Disco

scalyboy

They’re taking the piss now
'Disco' not as in '12" disco mix' but as in that weird phase when a few reggae people recorded disco / funk tunes.

I reckon this is gonna be like Marmite, love or hate, personally I love Tappa Zukie's 'FREAK' - and the instrumental is even funkier.
Reminds me somewhat of the Nigerian funk reissued by Soundway, Analog Africa et al.

Honourable mention for Keith Hudson's 'Civilisation'
Anyone got any others?

Would love to know if these were JA musicians or US / UK ones playing on these sessions.

I guess this late 1970s period was when JA reggae artists were beginning to realise they had a worldwide audience, certainly a white British audience (as well as in the Caribbean and its diaspora), in the wake of BMW's success and Branson's Virgin releases.

Probably not quite what you're after but Third World had a fair dose of Disco / Funk thrown in.

Ah, good call! I remember seeing them back in the early 1980s, was a bit nonplussed by their disco / funky stylings, took me some time to get with it
