Recover contacts on S10 after software update

My husband's work phone did an update last night and deleted all his contacts, he has no backup anywhere

I have been doing some googling and I see I can download software onto my laptop for recovery of android data

There are loads of sites that have software for this but I'm a bit dubious, can anyone recommend a legit site? or anyone have an other magical way I can find the lost data?

Both Samsung and Android/Google have built in contacts back up. Did he have them both turned off?

Brand new phone, I set it up yesterday, the contacts were there then at 2am the software updated and deleted them.

He hasn't been using google signed in until I sorted it yesterday, I also set up his samsung account but again only yesterday. this is a bit of a "helping yer grandad with his phone" thing

it took his work 3 weeks to set up his email on it, it's his only phone and he's regularly out on site. IT is in a different county.

The reality is he'll need to fix this himself, He has no time, is incredibly stressed so I do stuff like this for him (I work for the same company), he can't do his job without his phone, IT are utterly useless and 160 miles away.

I havent got an android phone til im back at work. But something similar to :

1. From a Home screen tap Contacts . ...
2. Tap MORE (located in the upper-right).
3. Tap Settings.

I'm giving up, I'm pretty sure they're just gone, god knows how that happened.

I'm so frustrated with him for never backing anything up, I just had the idea of signed into his icloud (he had an iPhone before), nothing there.

Needed to get that out of my system here instead of telling him that
