Recommend me some drone

they appear to be playing london on tuesday if yr interested.

And I think you get James Blackshaw supporting too. Better line up IMO than the Bristol gig the night before it.

I saw SoTL play in a church last year. Lovely stuff.

Unfortunately I think it sold out ages ago - I tried to get a ticket from wegottickets some months ago and all were gone...

Their new album Stars of the lid and the refinement of their decline is just divine but alas I seem to have managed to lose one of the discs...

Yeah I'm listening to quite a lot of SOTL at the moment but I don't class them as drone. They're, not, are they? I regard them as very s l o w... But that's not drone as such. I know there's a bit on 'Tired Sounds of' where the string quartet holds a chord for 10 minutes, but that's the only really droney bit of their music I can think of right now. Whatever, they're total genius and I love their music, madly! :)

I now live in the cultural back water that is Australia so artists such as this don't ever come and play as no one would go see them.

I really am enjoying listening to this though. I am going to buy a pick up for my violin and do some weird stuff with fx. Very inspiring indeed.

......are there any clubs/ nights in london playing drone/ laptop noise/industrial stuff... not sure what you would DO to drone/noise but i'm curious enough to go to a night

that's what i thought it was... nothing drone about it i don't think.

there is a "really big" (well like 50 people +) experimental/noise/drone scene in london i think the resonance fm forums might help you.

Slimelight is goth / industrial. It does veer into proper noise sometimes - Whitehouse played their farewell show there recently - but nothing drone, really

I bought the best new drone album I have heard in a long time this weekend - Radioland by Stephan Mathieu - it's absolutely beautiful stuff - heavenly sounds created from shortwave radio signals.... you can listen to bits at boomkat: http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=96796

"To some of the less ardent drone disciples out there, it might be difficult to accept that certain records ascribing to that format can be radically better than others, but Radioland really is. The detail, subtlety and physicality of this music transcends the norm by quite some measure, with the most involved, elaborate pieces sounding positively symphonic".

came across this.... might interest some folk here:

Immersion is a free-entry experimental music/sound-art event featuring a soundtrack of electronic atmospheres, noisescapes, pulses/rhythms and tones/drones.

Immersion is an arena for new and established artists performing live experimental electronic music; using laptops, synthesizers, field recordings, circuit-bent electronics and prepared/processed/custom-made instruments.

Immersion promotes the whole notion of DIY/independently generated music - free of commercial constraints, or constrictions of catagorisation.

All sounds are partnered by stimulating projected visuals processed live and tailored for each performance.

The Flea-Pit is a unique cafe-bar/arts venue with comfortable retro furniture - and a gallery/performance area, in the heart of east/central London's vibrant art scene and is located only five minutes away from Shoreditch High Street. Nearest tube: Old Street (exit 2).

one of my favourite noise/drone people is Daniel Menche, you can buy stuff from him direct as well at a great price.
