Recommend me an Alan Rickman film

Pretty much all of them really the man was brilliant, He stole the show in Die Hard and Robin Hood Prince of Thieves (to the point where Costner had some of his scenes edited out), Galaxy Quest was great ditto his performance in the Harry Potter films. He even managed to shine in the saccharine overdose that was Love Actually.

Couldn't stand the HP films, and not sure I could rewatch them for him

Robin Hood is a good shout, not seen it for years

Love actually is not my bag

Galaxy quest I will look up, also truly madly deeply and Michael Collins

Thanks so far

Bob Roberts not that he’s in it that much)

CBGB - if you fancy a contender for worst film ever.

I keep reading this as CPGB.
I was wearing a CBGB T-shirt at one European Social Forum when this bloke storms up to me going ‘you must be Peter Manson! [CPGB head honcho] I thought you’d be older.’

Great actor but he hasn't made that many films I care for much. His best work was probably on the stage, the adaptation of Les Liaisons Dangereuses was what propelled him to stardom.

<controversial opinion>

I've only seen Truly, Madly, Deeply once (when it came out) and thought it was horribly smug and middle class.

Is that the Robin Hood film with the horribly rapey played for laughs scene? I am not sure I could sit through it a second time.

Kevin Costner, Kevin Coster's mullet and that horrible song which hung around the charts forever, made me stay well away from that film.

Actually I think I am getting a bit muddled about which film Costner was in, but Prince of Thieves did have a very dodgy scene that has nothing to do with mullets or songs.

No I don't think that is the one I am thinking of. That is offensive in other ways :D Am fairly sure it is Prince of Thieves that made me do a double take in the cinema over one particular scene.

Prince of Thieves is the Kevin Costner Robin Hood film.

Anyway, what I am thinking of is there was a Robin Hood film and the standout (chillingly so) point for me was that there was a lengthy attempted rape scene in which the Sheriff iirc attempts to force himself on Marian and it was played as comedy - I found it well creepy and chilling at the time when I saw it in the cinema but no-one else seemed much bothered by it and the film was very popular.

If it is that film, would be interested to hear opinions about that from someone watching it today because I suspect that scene has aged very badly.
