Recommend me a Stephen King book

Pet Semetary.

Easily the best of his small town spooky horrors. If you've seen the film completely ignore it because it was unmitigated shite. The book is pretty good.

I love his earlier scary stuff😎

I liked the Dark Tower series. I read three or four of them about 20 years ago. He has since written a few extra. I would happily go back and re-read those.

I have also earmarked 'The Stand' that is the only stand-out premise I can really go along with.

John Connolly's Charlie Parker series goes for a similar horror-Anericana mix but his output is more uneven than Stephen King's. Connolly's best one is probably The Whisperers with some bravura set pieces in it.

Not mad about many of the latter ones, but I liked Cell. However I am half way through The Institute, and so far it’s very good indeed. Feels like the Stephen King of old.

Needful Things is one of my favourites, so if you haven’t read it, I’d go with that.
If you just want straightforward pulp fiction you might like his Bill Hodges series, Mr Mercedes, Finders Keepers and End of Watch. Good plots and Bill Hodges and Holly very likeable. The TV series was good too.

try their talisman and black house then, the latter sequel to the former
I thought Black House was terrible, but it takes all sorts, innit. Seconding the general recommendation of Needful Things. Uh, or The Regulators and Desperation, which are kind of two mirror books set in parallel universes or something? Been ages since I read any of them.
