It's based on the novelty bestseller of the same name which had nothing going for it but its title and the same will probably be the case for the film.

The film was a troubled production, starting out as a big budget horror comedy starring Natalie Portman with David O. Russell an A-list director attatched, intended to be faithful to Austen to make the absurdity of the mash-up funny. Then the budget got slashed and it got rewritten several times to make it more like other monster action films with women wearing tight leather corsets (Underworld/Hansel & Gretel Vampire Hunters) to aim it at teenagers/fanboys. Natalie Portman jumped ship, directors came and went till it ended up directed by someone who helmed a couple of Zac Efron teen romances and it now has been sitting on the shelf for nearly a year. The only bit of luck the film has on its side is that Lily James has become quite famous since they shot this.
