PhD Experience

Anyone done one? How was it? Just finished an MA and want to go on but at the moment still trying to figure out what to focus on. Got 3 or 4 broad ideas so far. Biggest issue for me beyond that is finding funding, has anyone been through that process and managed to get anything? Any tips?

Not done one but I have worked in research funding for a long time which often includes PhD studentships so I know a bit from the other side of that. I think the main thing I'd say there is that in general there's probably far fewer applicants than you might expect - recruiting good home students can be a real struggle - so do go for it even where you think it might be a tough one.
