Particularly good baggy indie tunes

ska invita

back on the other side
Caught a bit of 1990 TOTP yestetrday - funny

They had an Inspiral Carpets tune on that wasnt that bad, This Is How It Feels - i just about remember that
Im wondering if anyone knows of any particularly good tunes from this era, whether hits or album tracks

I think my favourite is the Charlatans The Only One I Know - really good funky organ rythmn track on that

Any favs?

it's pretty slim pickings isn't it? Jesus

Like I said, a lot of it hasn't aged well. I used to like that Candy Flip cover of Strawberry Fields but I'd smash up any stereo I heard it on now. Same goes for most of what Northside produced. Mind you, I properly hated this when it came out and still do:

I had a listen to the Candy Flip album when we were reviewing the records of 1990, and it's alright, Strawberry Fields excepted - more like a housey pet shop boys than baggy though.

I've actually been nailing an EP of Happy Mondays remixes recently which all sound great.

its often glossed over how much acid was being taken at this time - its seen as the E era, but it was the LSD + E era (and speed)
according to wiki Candy Flip means dropping LSD + E together

Very underrated and unfortunate to get lumped in with the baggie stuff

Yeah, I agree. Saw them.live a few times and really enjoyed them.

I actually prefer the Carter USM version of This Is How It Feels, which is not baggy at all.

Fool's Gold is pretty much the only Stone Roses track I really like, and it's well baggy.

Hippy Chick with the Smith's sample us good too.

ETA this was more pop than baggy I suppose, but kinda baggy pop. See also Overload.

Charlatans were deadly boring live.

Happy Mondays reliably delivered good baggy.

Fools Gold was great . In some ways the whole baggy thing was manufactured into a niche in which many bands didn’t fit but also many bands tailored their stuff to fit the niche . The former were normally better than the latter . There was also the rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester bands about the fashion and sound.

I quite like shall we take a trip despite being a bit cheesy. It was peak Manc wank indie.

I liked freaky dancin by the Mondays and the b-side of Indian rope trick by the charlatans, but most of this wave of turds was a massive turn off for me. Everything in the indie charts just went to toilet.

There were some proper shit bands came out of Liverpool in the wake of The La's (who were pretty good).

e.g.

Cast, The Real People and, of course The Farm. I vaguely remember a shit band called Top who I think we're from Liverpool but I might be wrong.
