Overlapping jobs dilemma

Help! I have a contract for a six week job (job A) starting on Monday. It pays well, much better than anything I do year round. Haven't signed yet but will have to do so tomorrow to get set up in time for next week.

However, the last three days of the contract, I've already verbally agreed to work elsewhere (job B - a project I've been involved with for years) So do I:

Ask job A now if I can leave early (they will say no and that will screw up any chance of wiggling out of the final three days later)

Ask job B if I can start late

Say nothing, start job A, then deal with it when it happens. Job A is entirely online, so there might be a way I could somehow do both/find a way to work around the issue.

No, I don't. That's probably my best bet, although they won't wiggle on the start date, as it's a big training project and the dates are already set. Job A won't lead to anything (except maybe more next summer), but job B is very likely to (and has given me quite a lot of good project work in the past). Argh!

Are they both working from home? In which case I personally would chance it. I imagine Job A will be winding down with only 3 days left to go and Job B will probably take a couple of days to wind up.
What is likely to stuff you is if Job A asks if you can extend the contract.

If you’re not desperate for further work from A and won’t be relying upon them for a reference, take both, try and negotiate with B but if that can’t be moved, pull a sickie/house move with A.

I take it both are in person gigs, so you can’t pull off a couple of ridiculously long days.

Well, this has now snuck up on me. Next week, on one day only, I am meant to be in two places at once. One physically (and that's where I will actually be), one on Teams. Can't decide what to do about this. My choices seem to be the following:

a) be honest to coordinator at job A and see what he suggests.
b) say nothing at all and hope nobody notices
c) organise with my students a different time for their final sessions. Time differences may mean this is possible, but will mean an extremely long day for me.
d) pretend to be ill.

I do not intend to work for job A again, but want to be certain I get paid what I am owed at the end of next month.

Yes c is the most sensible. I imagine I can get away without doing the classes for the full 90 minutes as its the final one and they've already done all their portfolios. Wondering whether I should inform coordinator of what I'm planning and why or just go ahead and do it.

I reckon the Urban Hive mind could cover for you in a thing a bit like the Turing test for job A. Claim wi Fi problems mean you can’t use video or audio just text. Then start a thread up here for that day and we could kd all chip in pretending to be you.

What could possibly go wrong?

omg yes you've given me another idea. Pay/bribe someone else to do it for me! Last lessons online are always a bit awkward. In a physical class we could all bring food, but online?

Joining these weirdos eh! :D

I work freelance and juggle about 4 positions usually but none of them are full time. This past month has been awful, I feel and look rotten. Will not do this again!

Not sure I could handle that tbh. It seems to be chiefly for people who work in IT / software companies. Feels a bit dishonest as well.

What you need is 10 jobs and outsource them all to China, then try to convince yourself you're better than your own boss.
Last line of the article says that is exactly what that guy did! He didn’t just outsource one single job, he was working full time at multiple places, and only paying out a fifth of his wages to the contractors

He probably thinks he was 'sticking it to the man'.

I got through it! Wouldn't recommend this and probably won't do it again, but earning good money for a short time was probably worth it.

Well done! I have seen the state OH occasionally gets himself in working back to back agency shifts (both when he was in nursing and later in hospitality) and although it is feasible, it isn't good for your health (mental and physical) to do it often - glad you got through it ok! I hope the new job works out really well :)
