Olympus exits the camera business.

Olympus aren't going out of business, and their gear won't magically stop working once the division is transferred to the new parent. I can see editor people who like you who just switched into Oly being concerned but I don't think this is the end of Oly photo gear.

I'm sure they'll carry on but the VAIO takeover wasn't exactly a rip roaring success. Still, my camera should be good for years anyway.

I once worked for a group which was taken over by a "turnaround specialist". There ensued years of relentless focus on profits and various rounds of closures, redundancies, and considerably raised stress for retained staff. The scrutiny of our monthly figures was absolutely minute. Despite the stress, I learnt a lot.

They all need to make some positive noises about the future or Oly camera gear sales will collapse because of all the uncertainty.

My 8 year old EM-5 still takes cracking pics and I'm hugely impressed with the EM-1iii.
The Lumix GX8 that I have is five years old and has basically the same sensor as the modern ones. My other main digital cameras are a Leica M9 (over 10 years old) and a Sony A900 (13 years old!) I don't really see that I need another camera now that will just do the same things, maybe slightly better, maybe actually worse to use.

have been tempted by the fuji x100v mind you

I wonder how this will impact Micro Four Thirds as a whole. That's a big chunk of future lens choice, etc. in jeopardy isn't it?

Tbh the new lens scene for m43 has been moribund for a while. Not that it really makes a difference - perhaps it's just that there are now enough lenses out there to cover pretty much all of what you could want.

Thing is those Olympus lenses might stop being manufactured now. I really like the look of the Pro range, with the manual focus clutch :( .

Sad news. I've had Olympus compacts - Trip 35 and Mju II - and they were wonderful. I've always been tempted by an OM1 too.
