O/T Red Star

As some of you will be aware, one of the European clubs Mishi built links with was Red Star 93. The club has enjoyed good times recently however they may now be facing a worrying few weeks as it's reported 777 Partners (a multi club owner best known here for trying to buy Everton) have collapsed. Red Star are one of seven sides they are known to own.

Their fans saw this coming and had done their best to block 777 from buying in. The first time I went there thirty or so years ago Red Star had been booted out of their ground and activist fans were handing out leaflets, about an emergency meeting to try and get the then owners booted out, to the few remaining fans.

I wish them well this time around too. It's a good community club that has a place in French football, relatively high, though perhaps not at their current step two level.

As an aside, the club was co-founded by Jules Rimet.

An incredibly historic club who once played on the Champ de Mars by the Eiffel Tower. Much as the connection with Altona grew from Mishi it was the same with Red Star. When we played the supporters the club was very much in the doldrums but in recent years they’d climbed the French pyramid and became the “hippest, coolest club in France” ©️ The Guardian - sound familiar? The success attracted the speculators but looks like that has come sadly back to bite them. There are more photos of that supporters game here - don’t remember too much of the game apart from some dodgy refereeing! Sadly three members of that team are no longer with us.
