Normalising MP4 volume, any freeware?

I am looking for anything that can even out (normalise) the volume of an mp4 movie file. I've been doing searches for "normalise mp4" and found either trial versions that don't tell you they're trial versions (grrrr) or are for 64bit PCs. I'm on a 32bit PC and I haven't upgraded due to lack of funds and necessity.

Don't anyone know if there is a program out there that can normalise an mp4 video that's freeware and for 32bit PCs?

Yup, Audacity is what you need - you may also need to download its associated libraries to work-on/export back to MP4

However, many software players also have a normalise option in their settings.

Okay, so I load my mp4 movie file into Audacity...

I really don't think Audacity is what I'm after. Except if there's a way of using it to work on my mp4 by stripping out the sound to mp3, working on it in Audacity then re-attaching the resulting mp3 to my mp4 file with perfect sound synchonisation?

Maybe a movie editor with sound editing functions?
