National ginger ale shortage.

I like my generic sugar free ginger ale. I probably get through a litre every other day.

However, a crisis has been apparent in recent weeks. Shop after shop has been sold out. Coop. Sainsburys. Waitrose. Up north, down south, you name it.

Here is a northern Sainsburys today.

Mostly well stocked. BUT A BIG HOLE FOR GINGER ALE.

What’s going on there, then?

It's connected to the general shortage of CO2 this year, manufacturers have focused their limited production on top selling brands & products, leaving the shortfalls to hit the supply of the likes of ginger ale.

I often drink sugar free ginger ale when I'm having a break from the booze. It's pretty horrid but it's fizzy and caffeine free and it's more interesting than water.

what's happened is sainsbury's is going soviet. we've noticed it in hackney. and for several days the sandwich selection at the waitrose i use for dinner has been appalling. not that it's that good at the best of times, but it's been abysmal. no salmon and cucumber. a gaping hole where cheddar ploughmans is supposed to be.

Ah. Ginger beer ≠ ginger ale. I was unaware of this. I am a massive ginger beer fan. Am I missing anything?

Ginger Beer is a fine drink on its own but Ginger Ale needs to be mixed with brandy IMO.

Canada Dry used to be the best but it has deteriorated since it was taken over a few years back. These days, Fever Tree is probably the best brandy mixer around, if pricey.

Any mixer pollutes the perfection that is brandy

Stones Ginger wine, had a few dodgy drinks with that in

I swear a single bottle of that lasted about 7 or 8 years in the dining room sideboard when I was a child. It was for mixing with my mum's annual new year's dram. I kept stealing the whisky it was mixed with but the ginger wine just smelled too sickly and sweet to be worth its 12% alcohol.

Yep, turned up at Christmas then sort of just hung around
