Myspace and finding gigs question

durruti02

love and rage!
Hi all.. i've about 150 bands on my myspace who i like to listen too/see, but IF i want to see if they are giging, i need to go to each of the pages individually and regularly to check their gig listings.

Now they should bulletin their gigs, in which case i would see them, but many bands don't.

So is there a way/ app /add on that feeds the gig entries of myspace friends direct to you and even better onto your calender i guess like Facebook events is feed staright to you.

cheers :)

No one's come up with a decent gig listings website for local areas.
cheers ed, but it seems strange doesn't it? You would think that bands (and clubs etc) would want a instant transfer of any gig they list on their page, across to people who have friended them. Got to be good for them and good for the punter surely ..

( there is one little app, done by venues first and only has about 10 venues on it )

Are you in London?

I'm quite liking songkick.com - you can track a band or venue and they'll send you an email once gigs are announced. Not that great for totally obscure unsigned bands but does the job for touring and well-organised bands.

There's nothing that cmoes close to offering any kind of comprehensive listings for Brixton - but as you know, I've been mulling over fixing that conundrum.

;)

I use Last FM to find out about gigs....

The London listings are extremely comprehensive and because it knows my listening habits if you filter the listings to look at your personal reccomendations you typically find out about most gigs by bands you are into.

I can guarantee that they won't offer a truly comprehensive, easy-to search listing for Brixton on any day you care to mention.

no-one does, for anywhere. mainly because listing sites have to rely on the competence of bands, venues and promoters to promote themselves effectively... short of your listings site having legions of paid staff to constantly chase people up, it's not going to happen.

i guess for a fairly small locality like brixton, it could be easy enough (although still hard work to cover all venues, i'd expect), but anything bigger and it'd be a nightmare...

I have a killer plan but it does involve some work. It might even be profitable though, if I can be arsed.

Well, the South London Press do try but if promoters or venues can't be arsed sending listings in then what hope is there? I know you, I and Hootahob do but often that's it.

but thats where myspace should work. bands DO list the gigs on their page and so why isn't that automatically lifted to their friends  it's a win win

I see where you're coming from now. It's really fiddly inviting friends to a gig the way myspace is set up at the moment. Would be so much better if you could just create an event on the calendar and knew that it went to all friends.

I guess the downside is is that bands would lose friends but if they felt like that about getting a message in their inbox they probably wouldn't go to a gig anyway.

Myspace did so much for bands in its time but just never kept pace.

yes :) many of my bands arnlt in london but i still think i wouldn't mind hering their gigs. in fact if the app was intelligent you could control what bands weer gigging or even maybe if the gigs were in your area .. is the newsfeed on FB that complicated techonolgy?

i think the old idea of myspace is fucked and that the company are trying to flog us Myspace Music and get us buying downloads

the've done very few tweaks of any worth in the past couple of years and when they do them they're not intuitive

here's an old school tip....write to the bands you like and ask to be put on their mailing list. I know it;s old fashioned but it;s coming back into vogue with the number of smartphones around

Yeah, so many good things came out of the 90s! Of course some bands will have moved over to that little app that lets you post on fakebook, theirspace and (the actually useful) twitter at the same time but I think it will always come back to email.
