My secret train

Bloody trains from Victoria are always ballsed up, and full up. Going from charring cross to London bridge is a pain and the trains, are always rammed during rush hour.

There is however a train from blackfriars to Gatwick that nobody wants. It takes 10 to 15 minutes longer than normal but who cares. Instead of worrying about getting a seat, I worry that I'm not going to get a whole carriage to myself.

We're about 15 mins walk from Farringdon, so will often use the Thameslink from there to get to Gatwick, saves pissing about on buses to get to London Bridge (which always seem to be on diversion).

Trains do seem to take ages to get out of London on that route, weaving round Crystal Palace, Loughborough junction etc., what's the deal there, is it something they'll sort out once the London Bridge revamp is done? You've got all these shiny trains crawling along at cycling speed for half the journey. If London can't provide efficient routes for these expensive trains they should be taken away and replaced with pacers.

A child appears to have left his skateboard leaning on one of the seats
Well yes, it is my daughters. I drop her at school (she skates) and take it with me to work (can't leave it at school). Bonus. It gets me to the station before 9am so I can get a decent train. I can also get from Victoria or blackfriars to Soho really quickly. It's very convenient.

Are you drinking wine on your morning commute?

That's right. These are the Thameslink-London Bridge-East Croydon-Gatwick-Brighton trains, currently sent round the houses while they finish London Bridge. The Suplex Special will return to its regular route in January, when it will become 15m faster and rammed full.

You can see the big detour on their current route map

Nooooooooo.

The beauty of this one is that it only goes as far as Gatwick so no Brighton bods. Though currently the Brighton trains still have plenty of seats.
I'll miss it next year.
