The modern pentathlon consists of five sports: running, swimming, fencing, shooting and horseback riding.

What is modern about that?

Maybe it should be replaced by the post modern pentathlon, with individual events involving self consciousness, self referentiality, epistemological and moral relativism, pluralism and irreverence.
