Merging the two Donald Trump threads?

There's now two Donald Trump threads where the exact same kind of content is being posted in both, so I think they should be merged.

I also think it might be good to have a 'memes' thread so all that stuff can sit away from the proper discussion.

And the subsequent government will simply tear to pieces all these stupid Executive Orders.

I’ve put on ignor the two Trump threads that are meme-tastic YouTuber odysseys. That way I only need to look at the more serious discussion.

There’s obviously a need for what I consider “low quality” content, and I wouldn’t deprive those who enjoy it, but they really only need one thread for it.

Go ahead and merge, I say. I might even take it off ignore once I know it’s contained.

The more recent Trump thread was deliberately created as a serious alternative to the other one because many felt that discussion on that thread had become buried under a mountain of memes, shit videos and people repeating how stupid Trump voters were ad nauseum.

Maybe rather than combining the two it would be better to reinforce the distinction and "encouraging" contributors to confine the shit posting to the MAGA twat thread.

I think the first one has settled down a bit and isn't overwhelmed with junk so much tbf, with the result that the two discussion threads are quite similar now.

TBH I'm not sure - I think 'fucking hell Trump is a cunt' is a legitimate reaction and there should be room for it, but also that genuine discussion with any depth is a different thing that that stuff can get in the way of. What I'm not sure of is if that distinction can actually be maintained on here though or if a splodgy mess of stuff is inevitable.

I agree that “fucking hell etc” is a legitimate reaction. But I can see the liberal memes, random YouTube videos, and “he’s orange and has bad hair” comments elsewhere on social media if I want. Which I don’t. So I’d really, really, really like somewhere to contain all that away from more serious discussion if at all possible.

The MAGA thread has improved in recent times but there was a legitimate reason for the other thread 'second term' being created. I'd be happy with the threads being merged if there is more active moderation to direct the fluff to the meme thread.

I put the Maga twat one on ignore as the signal to noise ratio was unbarible. The other one looks more news and discussion, so I say keep them separate but appreciate there's 3 including the memes one.

I wanted to do a quick check that I wasn't misunderstanding the threads even though it seemed obvious to me that they should be merged.

And with a vote of 15-1 in favour, it seemed my instinct was correct. I'm now closing this thread.
