Masterchef: The Professionals

She did take a year off last year herself actually. But I doubt she would have gone back to the show if the reason was Gregg Wallace and he was still there.
It was apparently a family issue (sick relative, I think) and I am pretty sure the official reason wasn't him.

I would imagine she puts up with him - it must be hard for her when she's so nicely encouraging to the female chefs, who are in a minority, to see him leering at some of them and making nauseating attempts to flirt with them. But again, I'm speculating.

I genuinely don't see that, not on the pro show anyway. He seems to me to be fond of the chefs and appreciative of their skills, and to genuinely want them to do well.

He also likes his meat overcooked and his puddings too sweet. But that's the extent of my complaints against him on the show. One for the unpopular opinions thread, perhaps, but I don't mind him.
Yeah agree. We find ourselves laughing at some of his expressions and phrases but his enthusiasm for the show/food seems genuine and is endearing.

But I do find it easy to imagine he’s a bit too ‘old skool’.

This has nothing to do with the allegations. I just don't mind him as a presenter on this show. He might well be a massive creep, but I'd be lying if I said I picked that up off watching pro masterchef. I didn't. And I know nothing about him at all outside of the fact that he presents that show.

All the conversation about Monica Galetti putting a stop to it - well, you can see that there were historic complaints from women like Kirsty Wark dating back decades in this case, and how much the words of women were listened to (and how many women have to speak up over such a period of time to have anything at all happen). Galetti, however strong, works in an industry where the arsehole behaviour of men has traditionally been lauded and encouraged, and, like most women, has undoubtedly and sadly just had to tolerate and endure an awful lot of shit in her time.

I never would have called Rolf Harris.

I sort of wouldn't either, but I did have advance gen that he was not the cheery nice fella we saw on the telly. He did a roadshow programme in the early 80s and his obnoxious attitude even made the local BBC news and press when he came my way, which I'm sure wasn't an outlier. My wife also met him at some fete when she was a kid and testified to him being a miserable bastard.

On the general subject of disgraced celebs and linking it back to Gregg Wallace, everyone seems to have known all along now that Savile was a wrong 'un, but other than finding him a bit weird and creepy I had no inkling (or interest in him, to be fair). However, there was a moment on a documentary about the HST and all the associated Age of the Train stuff BR did that aired before Savile died where this PR bloke made it very clear as a kind of disclaimer almost that he didn't like Savile at all, but that he was the best choice for the ad campaign at the time. I took a step back and thought 'I wonder what that's about', and in hindsight there was a similar moment when they got John Torode and Wallace on the One Show a few years ago and it was obvious that John Torode didn't seem to like Wallace, making it bluntly clear that he had nothing to do with him outside of the programme, much to Wallace's discomfort despite his efforts to grin and joke it off. I think I understand that now.

Not sure why everyone is expecting Monica to somehow be kicking off about this. I like her but she's happy to work with Giles Coren who is a massive cunt. She didn't call him out for his misogyny, his racism and that really odd tweet about fucking and killing his next door neighbours kid.

We all like to project our own wishes onto famous people. Remember when the Queen came out against Brexit by wearing a hat?

So are we saying that the BBC see Gregg Wallace as the talent on MasterChef and are unwilling to upset him in any way?

Let him make his offensive jokes as long as he makes series 45 of MasterChef?

God knows what Michel Roux Jnr got away with.

Greg's cockernee barra boy salt of the earth antics have never amused me. He's the guy who sold the programme fruit and veg and has no relevance to food beyond that as far as I'm concerned. When judging the plates, does anyone really care what he thinks or how much he laughs at the reaaallllyyy meaaatyyyyy sauuuuuceee? If he hates the dish and the other two like it, job's a good 'un. I could live without the pretence that his opinion matters at all.

He's done a video response thanking people for messages of support. No comment on the allegations, of course. Ciao mamma. So who will be his replacement? Jay Raynor seems the most media-friendly of the associates. Or some pleasant general presenter? I don't really care; I'm there for the actual food not comedy relief.

I never watched masterchef but his twattery on 'In The Factory' constantly vexed me. A genuinely fascinating show ruined by his relentless larking about and crap jokes. Most of the workers in the episodes seem like they just want to get on with their job but have to endure him until he moves on.

He was unbearable on it. Such a shame, as you say, because it was such a brilliant watch.

Exactly. Where is the conversation about John Torode or Marcus Wareing putting a stop to it?

Always the women. Always. Wallace exposed for the slimy sleazebucket he is and has so regularly come across as but no, let's focus instead on Monica and question her 'failure to step up'.

Always the same. .

A number of anonymous sources have spoken to the Daily Mail to explain that Gregg is autistic and that explains his over familiar characteristics and looser than usual attitude towards sex.
