Mass murders in terrorist attack on Istanbul's Ataturk airport

i will be at both ataturk and gocen in a month- they were pretty well guarded when i was there a couple of months ago. anyone claiming responsibility ?

Flying out from Antalya tomorrow night..waiting on some kind of news from easy jet..as I'm assuming all traffic going to the airport will be checked more than once.

We were going to either take the bus or tram..but thinking a taxi might be the safest/fastest way out if anything happens.

I am afraid. This was nastily timed - schools have just broken up and teachers and families are flying away for the summer. Many friends of mine passing through the airport today. One friend flew this morning and said the passport control system was completely down for a long time. This is too close to home.

There is security controls at the airport entrances - x-rays, scanners, etc, but it seems the terrorists managed to get inside the airport. Inside job?

Sorry to here this. Not that it makes it better for others but I hope all your friends are okay.

As usual, every time something like this happens, the internet grinds to a halt (government doesn't want people discussing, sharing) - at the time when people need it the most :( can't access any news sites, social media, or find out what's going on. Just here!

CNN are reporting 50 dead (this may well be inaccurate) stay safe and best wishes for your friends and all others at airport.

Thank you Peter :(
Just awful. I fly from Ataturk about twice a month, have two flights in the next two weeks but from Sabiah Gokcen, which is the city's other airport (was also attacked by a mortar recently). Uff. I really feel sick. People are so afraid already.

Just read policeman tackled the bomber but bomb went off anyway :(

The Syrian's brother flew out a few hours ago. He just managed to confirm he is ok Z

He was lucky...I have a friend stuck on a plane at the airport now. BBC news reporter is also stuck on a plane (arriving) and been doing reports from the plane.

Exactly...I've been on holiday in the South for two weeks. Very, very quiet and very sad to see empty hotels, restaurants, people out of work. Such a beautiful country :(

My friend passed through there the day before the attacks. Messaged him, just to see how he is & got this reply

Thanks mate the beers are (going) down well. Bombs & guns won't ruin this trip. Great craic going on, loving it, such nice people

I'm living in Istanbul, Turkey and sure this is truly sad news. So I was shocked and greatly saddened by the news that people had died and wounded. A terrorist attack on one country was an attack on all humanity. It means these attacks are not just on Istanbul, Turkey and People. They are against all of humanity. Is condemned at once as a treacherous onslaught on the national prestige. I extend our deep condolences to the families and relatives of those who lost their lives. I wish a quick recovery to the injured people. I strongly condemn these treacherous attack took place in the Istanbul.
