Maggie's Died!

It is wrong to gloat over someone's death. I shall not party, nor shall I mourn her passing. She did some evil things to the country, which continue to this day. The part should be for the removal of the political economics she introduced.

Her ideas and politics are very much still alive, she won't suffer eternal damnation unless the Christians are right and she had a good innings. Meh.

Why's Cameron cancelled meetings with other heads of state? Why is he going back to the UK? After all she's only another dead person without any current importance.

No it's not. Don't then. Perfectly acceptable to tie her death and happiness at it to the fight against her legacy - in fact, it makes no sense not to. Next.

It is? Bet you a lotta lotta people rejoiced when Hitler died. And rightly so. See also Stalin, Mao, Kim Il Jung, Idi Amin etc etc.

According to the BBC parliament is going to be recalled so that MPs can give their respects and tributes to the "great" lady. That I want to hear.

A small confession : I said I wouldn't celebrate till her deluded and toxic creed was dead, but I must say I do feel more relieved than I might have anticipated.

I have absented myself from media all night though, and for all I know that could send me into fury - reactionary revisionism is likely.

Also anticipate staged outrage against those who maybe a bit OTT in the celebration. Remember, this outrage is from people who use the deaths of dead children to attack benefit claimants, who call disabled people liars etc. The dead tree press of this nation are it's biggest bullies by far.

Couple of separate things:

Did anyone here read a small, slightly obscure book by Robin Ramsay called "The Rise Of New Labour"? It made a good case that it was Heath who ruined the economy in the 70s to get us into the EEC, but Labour got landed with the blame and Thatcher got in on that myth. Thoughts on the theory?

Another semi-random: Does a claim that every PM since has been envageld in more war stand up? (counting that Brave Gordon managed to sit on his hands and sign warcrime cheques at the same time?) What does this say about male "leaders" if so?

Another : I always thought a huge marker of her personal moral failure was that her repulsive criminal son chose, with all options at his disposal, to make money in surely the most evil trade on this ball of rock. The daugher seemed much more of a rounded human. LaThatch seems to have loved the former a great deal more.

Finally for now : Barnados had a survey out (quoted in ITV's Breadline Britain not long back) regarding attitudes to poverty.

30 years ago, a Christmas present, birthday present and a 1 week annual holiday away were considered "neccessities" by most. They are now considered "luxuries"

Thatcher's creed claimed, if nothing else, to be about providing more stuff to more people. Even with overall growth and huge leaps forward in technology, that creed is a proven failure in it's own terms and at the most basic level.

But people still believe. And this is where I think much of the anger comes from : Anger is often borne of impotance. Thatcher may be have been economically and ethically wrong, but she was popular. People are running around tonight paying tribute to a woman who did so much to stand by a man who had opponents raped with dogs. Their observations are redundant. I don't know why anyone takes them seriously beyond their own arrogant selves, but I think her supporters aknowledged and the opposition more than the other way round, and delighted in it.

The ugly truth / bottom line for me though is that both Thatcherism and it's opponents are monumental failures : The one in it's own terms, the other in it's failure to stop it.

Mick Philpott - a lying moneygrabber who would do anything to suit himself. Is there a truer symbol of Thatcher's legacy?

The disgusting son of MHT - Is there any legal cause for him to be arrested if he returns for the funeral - tax dodging, arms sanctions, illegal coup stuff etc?

serious question.

One thing: now that Thatcher is dead, will U75 go belly up?

I mean, what is left to talk about?

Cameron and the ConDems.

Only this morning it's been announced that prisoners are losing legal aid. Today and the rest of this week we party, but the fight goes on to get this country back.
