Lost Prophets...

Out of interest, why are people so convinced he'll not make it out of prison alive? Plenty of other high profile/worst case paedophiles, such as Huntley, are still knocking on after a significant stretch.

Of those who are predicting a shortened life, will it be by his own hand or that of others?

Oh, and fucking rot, Watkins. Bet you're not feeling quite so tip top now are you, big man?

He's as high profile as you can get - that's a target in itself. And he wants to rape babies. Put that against how long he'll be in and you may get this.

Good. They all deserve it.

And more importantly I hope the children involved have happy childhoods and get the care and support they will need when they're older and learn about what happened to them as infants.
There's a case for lying to them here, no? Very difficult situation, I can see a case for telling them their mothers are dead.

Absolutely not. But I cant face discussing this atm; I spent yesterday morning working on a case of a child whose disclosed some pretty horrible abuse and I'm finding it to too much to think about atm.

The sentencing remarks are now out. They're horrific. Take that as a warning. They are horrific. Really. I'm not messing about.

Here's the link. (pdf).

edit: in fact i don't know if i should even post this.

if you lied, the psychological impact would be much worse, they'd think they wouldn't be able to trust ANYONE
Yes, fair enough. Keeping information to a minimum, though, until such a time as they ask for more. I would imagine the mothers won't be allowed any kind of contact.

i think a bit of 'paternalism' is probably in order here a bit; but i guess if, at a sufficiently old age, the children really wanted to know the truth, then they probably should be no barriers placed to that. do think though still there should be lots of prep for finding out something like that...

I'm not going to read it, but I feel incredibly sorry for the police, court and social work professionals who have had to be exposed to this stuff

as others have pointed out, it wouldnt work. Even the judge has just said 'Despite him being placed in long term foster care...he
will eventually learn the truth of hischildhood and the abuse he was subjected to.' :(
