Looking for a particular Turkish dessert

miss direct

misfungled
I'm looking for a special dessert called gullac. It's traditionally only made during Ramadan and even in Turkey isn't available everywhere. I really like it and am hoping one of the Turkish bakeries or cafes in London might have it.

Is there anyone living near Green Lanes/the Turkish areas who could have a look for me please? Its a long way for me to come from the Isle of dogs (with a dog 😆) just to hunt for something that might not be there.

I'm a bit busy today but could have a quick look tomorrow lunchtime? (There's a Turkish bakery nearish to me.) Saying that, is it a local/regional speciality? Just the places round here (Hackney) are generally Kurdish.

Thank you! I'm not sure if it's regional, I've had it all over Turkey. It's often sold in the bakeries there. By the way, the c is a ch sound. Here's a picture:

Okay, so that was educational :) .

I went to the Akdeniz Bakery in Stoke Newington Rd (I think they supply a lot of restaurants so thought it would be a good place to start.) The guy knew what it was, said they didn't do it, suggested trying the shop next door.

In the shop next door, the guy I asked didn't know what I was talking about. I asked the owner who knew what is was but said they didn't sell it. Suggested I try one of the Turkish supermarkets towards Dalston (I assume he was Kurdish as to me it seemed very much like a Turkish shop .)

Tried a couple of other places, no dice. Went to TFC (which is a largish Kurdish/Turkish supermarket with a bakery). Asked the woman at the bakery counter. She says yes they sell it, but not at the bakery counter. I find what she's talking about but it's pre-packed and feels like a big dryish wafer and not delicious like the pics above.

So I think it's fair to say it doesn't really seem to be a thing round here alas, miss direct :( .

Are you sure that wasn't the gullac sheets you were looking at (which you use to make the desert)?

That'd be my suggestion, in any event: but some gullac sheets and make it yourself - dead easy.

Possibly but having tried about five different places, that's all any of them had -- certainly none of them had the made up thing.
Recipe says to eat within a day of making. Probably won't keep long enough to buy ready made unless there's a big demand for it. :(
