London Car Free Day - 22nd Sept

Books, not bombs
Following in the heels of other great city's, Mr Khan is closing down some of the capital's streets on Sunday 22nd September. By coincidence, this also happens to be London Open House day which is great.
This year's London Open House weekend is 21 / 22 September - website says '800 buildings, walks, talks and tours'

Guide book can now be pre-ordered, will be issued in August.

Volunteer slots will be open 1 July (doing half a day's stewarding somewhere gets you a free copy of the guide book and also a pass for priority admission to all but the 'tickets by ballot' buildings.)

Sadiq Khan announces car-free day in London to tackle air pollution

I don't know what this will me for me or my colleagues who have to work/drive around in private cars?

Not possible to offer alternatives. We have no control over what calls we get, what we have to go out to.

Great news although would it not have been better to capitalise on the RideLondon/Freecycle weekend in August that shuts loads of road anyway and is during peak holiday season?

Anyway if Paris can do I'm sure London can  but just wait for the inevitable moaners.

Great news. Was recently in Bogotá where every Sunday loads of roads are shut and people cycle/skate/run around the city. If a city dominated by driving with shit public transport can do it, london should be able to cope

Its all very well for the Mayor to pull off stunts like this. He could do more like take Councils to task who try to sell off play space.

As in Loughborough Junction. Where residents have been having two year struggle with Labour Council over disposing of an Adventure playground.

Its not car free day political stunt that is needed its proper strategy to defend and support Youth provision. Including holding onto to land that is for Youth provision. Rather than seeing it as real estate to sell off to plug Council finances.

two days after the called out worldwide climate general strike (Fri 20 Sept), which in itself kicks off a week of extinction rebellion actions iirc...so quite appropriate

What is the car free zone exactly?
