Local Elections May 5th 2022

dead at my polling station well a few started filtering thru after i left

Pretty much a rock solid Labour ward so cannie say you have to be to worried

I asked the clerks how they thought it was going to work when we all have to produce ID. Mayhem, they thought. Queues and complaints. There'd need to be an absolutely massive campaign for people to know to bring it along and even then, half of them wouldn't. It will take ages to process each one. 'I don't understand why we don't have electronic voting anyway' grumbled one of them 'Everything else is online these days.'
I didn't get on to the bigger questions of ID, obviously.

this is a main tactic of the GOP here, pass laws requiring ID that some people may not have, and if they do then challenge the ones whose look you don't like.

aye simular tactic about bring it in over here

to poor to have a passport or a driving licease or new to the country

sorry mate guess you don't get to vote

Conservative wankers alike the world over

Lots of Lutfur Rahman’s Aspire people about today in my ward. (Disgraced ex Mayor of Tower Hamlets). Some real vitriol and shenanigans towards the biggest supporter of LTNs Kevin Brady (Lab). He’s been a good councillor and has always responded to things I’ve raised with him.

It’s all a bit nasty.

Busier than I'd expected at my polling station. Whether that's good or bad for Labour I don't know (I voted Plaid / Green in the hope a high vote for them might nudge Labour left)

Duly took our polling cards down to the assigned polling station.

It wasn't open. The little Welsh chapel in the village was locked.

Confused, we went home. Fantasies of the denial of the franchise and the revolutionary consequences went through my head.

Looked at the Electoral Commission website to find out that the set was 'uncontested'. The cards must've been sent out before close of nominations

So no choice at all in this corner of Flintshire? Bloody swizz

Me and my middle boy voted (he's 16 so first time for him). We had to queue which seems unusual for a council election.

I voted:
1 independent sitting councillor because she's good
2 first SNP candidate
3 second SNP candidate
4 Labour candidate
5 Green candidate
6 Lib Dem candidate
and I didn't rank the Tory or the Alba candidates at all because I absolutely don't want my vote going to either of them ever. I only ranked the Lib Dems with my nose held because doing so makes it less likely we'll end up with either a Tory or an Alba councillor.

Civic duty done here. We're in your neck of the woods brogdale, so it's usually a two horse race between the Lib Dems and the blue scum. This time round the independent candidates have made a real effort, doorstepping and leafleting and that; I think they might make some headway :hmm: Not that I'm down with that as there is a distinct whiff of crackpot about them all (one ex-UKIP, one who has stirred up lots of aggro related to my work).

More to the point, my nutty conspiraloon neighbours over the road have got placards out saying Vote Independent, which instantly convinced me not to.

Other than that, have only seen LDs out canvassing. Not a ghost of Labour, and the Tories didn't even bother leafleting. The LD who knocked on my door asked me how I'd be voting, to which I replied "don't know yet, but definitely not Tory ever".

Have to show ID here (in Portugal ) to vote normally the Citizens Card (which has health, social security details and can be used to travel in the EU). I can vote in local elections but not national and have to show passport and residencia .

I pretty much always vote, but tonight I just thought 'I really can't be fucked '. I'd rather have a Labour councillor than a Tory (and this ward has swung back and forth in past decade) but I just couldn't will up the necessary effort required to grit my teeth and forget about how vile the Labour Party is as well. Maybe next year.

No elections in my area today, so I had to move house to cast my vote. I've always thought that democracy was expensive, but this is just ridiculous! After that I'll have to move back again, cos I like living where I do. The price of freedom eh?

I'm physically tired and couldn't work up any enthusiasm regarding Bristol's mayoral referendum so didn't bother ...

I did but mainly for a walk. I haven’t been out the flat since Tuesday. I asked at the polling station they said it had been very quiet. I voted to retain a mayor for what it’s worth.

No elections round my way which is slightly disappointing as I would've enjoyed a protest vote. Local elections are sometimes more entertaining than the big ones around here - St Ives is reasonably marginal between Con/LibDem so any vote of mine is essentially pointless in a general election. In the local elections you get a sense that your vote might actually count a little teeny bit. I would've enjoyed making Derek Thomas the Conservative guy squirm. I've had some partygate correspondence with him that has been utterly pathetic.

I hope Laura Kuennsberg is right. I worked as a Housing Officer in Westminster during the homes-for-votes scandal too oryx so would fucking LOVE to see the Tory flagship go glug glug glug. :D

I will be going glug glug glug myself tomorrow night if they do!
